Building the Future Together

Support the New Spicewood Community Library!

Our Story and Why a New Building is Needed

In July, 2005, Friends of Spicewood Community Library opened a library for Spicewood's 2,400 residents with only 5,000 items. It has grown over the years to now serve parts of Burnet, Blanco and Travis counties.

Today, Spicewood has grown to nearly 7,000 residents and is expected to reach 15,000 by 2030. The library offers many well-attended programs for all age groups with over 11,000 physical items on the shelves and thousands more digital items available online. This growth has generated new requirements for the community.  The capabilities and examples of the programs needed for this area are outlined on Community Needs - Services & Programs.

The original library is a retrofitted, nearly 50-year-old manufactured building. That building is deteriorating rapidly and no longer meets the needs of this growing community. The building's condition and inadequate space is limiting the library's ability to effectively fulfill its mission to serve this community.
