SPICEWOOD COMMUNITY LIBRARY
SUPPORTED BY THE FRIENDS GROUP
Located nearly 20 miles from any other public library, Spicewood Community Library provides a variety of services to the residents of this area. The library opened in 2007 with 100% private funding with no county or state assistance. The library joined the Burnet County Library System as a branch in October, 2021. By joining the county system, the Spicewood Library is able to offer its patrons a greatly expanded availability of materials as well as increased benefits and services.
As a branch of the Burnet County Library System, the county provides part-time employee hours for the library staff as well as some library systems, supplies and electricity. All other operating costs including maintenance, all other utilities, books, etc., continue to be borne by Friends of Spicewood Community Library, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Friends group is funded by donations, memberships, grants, fundraising activities and the thrift store. Those funds are used 100% to support the programs and services offered by the library. Current programs and services can be viewed the county's library website.
The Friends of Spicewood Community Library is led by a dedicated team of volunteer board members and officers. All work provided the Friends group and the volunteers that work in the library, garden and thrift store do so without compensation. 100% of funds raised by the Friends is used for the library.
