Summer Reading Program

Summer Reading Program
A Universe of Stories

Join us for this year's space themed Summer Reading Program; a fun way to keep grades and school performance from dropping after summer vacation! Kindergartners through 6th graders will love the out-of-this-world crafts, snacks, activities, and stories that await them.

This FREE program takes place over 5 Saturdays:

-June 1st

We had so much fun today! Thank you so much everyone who came. We learned about why there are craters on the moon, made moon snacks, enjoyed stories, had a raffle, and made galaxies in jars.

-June 15th

It was a star themed day as we enjoyed two books about stars, learned about constellations, made our own edible constellations, made star viewers, and competed for stars in Mario Party. Two families also won tickets to the Marble Falls Water Slide in the raffle for the day!

-July 13th

What does it take to become an astronaut? The younger kids will be reading two books to find out! They will then make and take home their very own space invaders.

The force is strong with the older kids as they read an excerpt from "Origami Yoda", and make some out of this world paper crafts!

All ages will be making and eating star shaped sandwiches, will earn two raffle tickets for the day, and will enjoy a raffle drawing.

-July 27th @ 10AM

Kids enjoyed story time and crafts.

-August 3rd @10AM

For story time, the younger kids will be read two books following zany alien adventures. Then it is time for crafts!

-Make and eat alien apples

The older kids will learn about the scientific method through some catchy songs. We will discuss how scientific theory differs from other types of theory, and how facts and data drive science.

The younger kids will enjoy two books that use the stars and moon to promote creativity and emotional exploration. Then comes the fun! They will use Oreo cookies to learn about the phases of the moon.

The older kids will take part in an out of this world scavenger hunt. This solar scavenger hunt will teach them both about our solar system and about the library. Snacks will be provided.

All ages will take part in our big, end of Summer Reading Program RAFFLE! See below for more information.

There will be a RAFFLE and participation prizes at the end of the program. Children earn TWO RAFFLE TICKETS for each of the Saturday events they attend at the library. Children receive ONE RAFFLE TICKET for every additional trip they make out to the library between June 1st and August 3rd (At least one item must be checked out during each visit. Limit one visit per day). Thanks to our generous donors, some of the raffle prizes include:

- 4 Tickets to the SCIENCE MILL

- 4 Tickets to LONGHORN CAVERNS

- 4 Tickets to the BLUEBONNET AIR SHOW

- 2 Tickets to the EXOTIC ZOO RESORT

- A Red Brookstone RC HELICOPTER

Stay tuned for more detailed information about each event day!

Kids are encouraged to participate during all five days, but it is not required. Children will be split into two age groups (kindergarten-3rd grade and 3rd grade-6th grade).
